Our Story
First Christian Church, Bellingham, WA
In 1890 G.L. Jackson arrived in Sehome, Washington Territory and found no Christian Church on Bellingham Bay. He organized people interested in organizing a church there and First Christian Church was organized March 1891 with 24 Charter members. They first met at Rogers Hall on Forest Street next to the Old Grand Hotel.
The first building was located on Halleck and C streets, 1891 - 1901
An addition was built on the west side of the building for the growing church, 1901 - 1924.
The second building, located at Girard and A Street, was four stories and built to house the congregation and intended to be a gathering place for the community and civil affairs from 1924 to 1932.
The fellowship hall and classrooms at the current site at 495 East Bakerview Road were built in 1933, and the wing of the building that now houses Interfaith Coalition was added in 1972. The sanctuary was built in 1977.
